The eruption which commenced at 22.17 UTC nearby Sundhnúkagigar is originating from a fissure located at N 63° 54' 20.08", W 22° 21' 04.86'' (dag, min sec). The precise location has been confirmed by helicopter survey the area. Vigorous lava fountains are clearly visible from cameras and the radar images. The height is apx. 500m asl. and does not contain any ash.
