The coordinate of the centre of the new fissure is 63.8946, -22.2628 and it extends for about 100-200 meters. A gas plume is raising from the fissure and a lava channel has formed running fast towards the Meradalir valley. The eruption which started on the 19th of March in Geldingadalir is still ongoing.

Nánar um vá:
The main hazard in the area is represented by lava flow which is filling the Geldingadalur valley and the new one which runs toward Meradalir valley. The area has been evacuated. Northerly wind will transport the gas cloud toward the sea but this evening the wind will turn and will become very variable. Some gas pollution is expected in inhabited areas.
